Have you ever wondered if there was a way to heal our bodies and minds naturally? Have you ever wondered if food can be our medicine? Know that you aren’t alone in that thinking! It’s actually possible for our bodies to heal themselves with the hard work we put in with nutrition and diet.

Modern society is very focused on fast paced living. With that taking place, we are loosing the simple pleasures in life that help us to feel the most alive. Such as, how to properly prepare foods the traditional way to aid in digestion. How we are loosing our connection to this earth and the beauty in a simplistic lifestyle.

The father of modern medicine even knew disease began in the gut. The majority of our microbes inside our bodies live right inside our digestive system. We have the gut flora, gut microbiota, and microbiome. Our gut flora is the headquarters of our body’s microbial flora. What happens to the gut flora has a massive effect on every other microbial community in the body(the blood, mucous membranes, inside organs, and tissues).
To sum it up shortly, the gut flora is the easiest part of our microbiome for us to have a direct influence on. When we work on our gut flora to try to keep it healthy full of beneficial bacteria, we can keep the body’s microbiome healthy so it behaves well and no symptoms arise. Which is how food can be our medicine. If we give our body the proper environment through nutrition and diet it can thrive and heal itself.
From Scratch and Homemade
Cooking from scratch and making homemade seems foreign to so many these days. We have been losing what used to be second nature to us! Feeding and nourishing the body properly with unprocessed and whole foods. Some may think it could be overdramatic to say that. But as of 2021 they now have commercials on TV for food delivery apps saying “wow we don’t have to cook anymore!”. The media is literally advertising for people to stop relying on themselves and we can’t let that happen.
Knowing all of that, it’s a lot easier to see just how far gone we are from how things used to be… simple. Focusing on home cooked meals and healing your body from within with whole foods. Food can be our medicine as long as we understand how to properly use food as a healing method.

Traditional Food Preparation
Traditional ways of preparing food have slowly gotten lost the more modern society keeps getting. These ways helps ensure your gut can digest and break down tricky grains, nuts, and seeds that are hard to break down inside our digestive systems. My personal favorite traditional preparations are fermenting, culturing dairy, and soaking grains.
If all those things sound like a foreign language to you there’s no need to worry! I’m here to help make it less overwhelming than it really is. Once you get ahold of the fundamentals of traditional food preparation your gut flora and family will be thanking you.
